About emPOWer

EducationWorks’ 2022 emPOWer event celebrates our 30 years of operations in education and our most recent focus on three pillars: STEAM (Science, Technology, Arts & Math), entrepreneurialism, and wellness. We are proud to honor staff and industry partners for their dedication to our work on the ground and vision for Greater Philadelphia and beyond, supporting our expansion through several demographics.

Since its inception in 2015, emPOWer consistently attracts influential guests and dignitaries, a wide array of corporate sponsors, elected officials, and members of the media.

By purchasing tickets or becoming a corporate sponsor, you will directly support EW entering its fourth decade of providing the most innovative educational programs for Greater Philadelphia students in grades K-12, and our urban workforce development AmeriCorps PowerCorpsPHL program for opportunity youth aged 18-30.

Proceeds from this event will allow EW to provide critical enhancements to our programs and expand operations and opportunities in Greater Philadelphia and new locations throughout the United States.

About EducationWorks

EW’s Learning & Impact educators provide exceptional Out-of-School-Time (OST), In-School-Support (ISS) and summer services for thousands of students annually. Our K-12 programs engage students in project- based learning using instructional scaffolding strategies to classroom learning. Industry and community partners provide supplemental programming and real-life workplace, college, and career readiness exposure and experiences.

Our nationally renowned AmeriCorps workforce development program, PowerCorpsPHL, is aimed directly at youth aged 18-30, 50% of whom are returning citizens from juvenile or adult systems. PowerCorpsPHL reconnects individuals to training, education and careers with a sustainable path to successful lives. We provide exceptional supportive services and competitive wages with sector-specific training and technical credentialing.

With these programs, we extend EW’s continuum of care that stretches from kindergarten to adulthood, focused on addressing trauma and economic and cultural barriers, creating positive impact, and transforming the lives of those we serve.

Individual Volunteering

If you’d like to become a volunteer, please fill out the volunteer information form. Once we receive the completed form, we will be in touch regarding volunteer opportunities that match your interests.

EW is committed to providing a safe environment for children. In compliance with the Pennsylvania Child Protective Services Law, EW requires a Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance (free) and a Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check (free) for all volunteers who may have direct contact with children. If the volunteer has not lived in Pennsylvania for ten years or if volunteer’s permanent residence is outside Pennsylvania, an FBI Fingerprint Clearance ($27.50) is required.

CLICK HERE for instructions and links to apply for these three clearances.

Clearances are good for a period of five years.

The volunteer is responsible for completing each background check application and submitting the results to EW, where the records will be stored to protect confidentiality. Please email clearances together at one time to info@educationworks.org or mail them together to:

EducationWorks
Attn: Volunteers
990 Spring Garden Street, Suite 601
Philadelphia, PA 19123

Important: Please make sure you retain a copy of each background check for yourself. The original clearances are yours to keep and may be used to apply for volunteer (unpaid) positions with other organizations. If you have clearances that are less than one-year-old, you may use them instead of securing new clearances.

We realize that these requirements present additional “work” for the volunteer. Hopefully, you will not be discouraged from participating as an EW volunteer, because the benefits children receive from interacting with EW volunteers are invaluable for the future. The goal is to ensure a safe environment for children in compliance with Pennsylvania State Law.

If you have any questions about the requirements and the process, please contact me at jacquiepatterson@educationworks.org.

Corporate Volunteering

EW welcomes corporate groups to volunteer with our programs to make a lasting change. EW will work with you to develop a plan that meets your needs and capacity. Additionally, companies are invited to work with the professional staff at EW to create innovative marketing programs. Your support of EW provides a visible demonstration of your commitment to the improvement of the greater Philadelphia region. All packages are customized. Please contact Jacquie Patterson, Chief Advancement Officer at jacquiepatterson@educationworks.org.
